Each fall the kokanee salmon travel up Taylor Creek near South Lake Tahoe to spawn. The annual ritual means the fish change color, spawn and eventually die. The US Forest Service visitor center at Taylor Creek explains the whole process in detail. The fish are only around for a short time.
