Thousands in Placerville in deep freeze

The deep snow blanketing Placerville and its surrounding foothills continued to cause disruptions Tuesday, with thousands of residents going a second day without power and heat.

The snow that fell Sunday and Monday brought down trees and limbs throughout the foothills, and in some cases power lines with them. By Tuesday afternoon, a few thousand PG&E customers in El Dorado County remained without power.

Don Davis, spokesman for Marshall Medical Center, said the hospital relied on its generators after the electricity went out. But about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, the generators failed as well. The county Office of Emergency Services supplied portable generators until hospital generators were restored.
