STATELINE — More than 300 people filled the convention center at Harrah’s Lake Tahoe on Saturday night in support of Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra.

The service club’s annual Elegant Evening surpassed last year’s attendance, which was just less than 300.

The money raised from the $50 tickets and silent auction items stays in the community. The mission of Soroptimist to help women and children. That’s exactly what this group of women does.

A slide show ran during the night of different events these women help with, including Drug Store Project, which is March 30.

Thank you to all who attended our evening last night and to everyone who supports our organization and other service clubs with your donations. This is a wonderful community to be a part of. As Ms. Reed said, all monies raised remain in our community. All service clubs would love to have new members. Take the opportunity before you and get involved!

We KNOW, from personal experience how much effort it takes to put on an affair like this. Good job by the Soroptimists, volunteers and Harrah’s staff!
This was a simply lovely evening….first time for my wife and I, even though I have lived here at SLT for a long time. It takes something GOOD to get ME in my tuxedo! We saw quite a few people we knew, met many new potential friends, and we participated in the raffles, silent auction; and managed to be the first couple on the dance floor early on.
In the critique department, my wife (and I) would have preferred to have more of a romantic type of dance music (swing, foxtrot, etc.) after dinner….and; we found it almost impossible to understand anything whatever the speakers at the microphone were saying (I do not mean at the Live Auction time); so gave up even trying;…probably a combination of the crowd noise and the lack of treble response of the sound system settings.

We look forward to next year’s Elegant Affair.

Thank you Bob for the information. It really helps to hear from the guests and we’ll be working on those elements. Our goal is to provide you with the best possible evening. Keep on dancing!
