Vail Resorts reports more skiers, more revenue

Vail Resorts reported Tuesday that skier visits rose 2.3 percent and lift-ticket revenue was up 4.6 percent for the 2009-10 winter season compared with the prior year.

Vail Resorts operates Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge and Keystone in Colorado and Heavenly at Lake Tahoe on the California-Nevada border.

Ski-school revenue at the five resorts increased 8.3 percent, rental and retail sales were up 8.1 percent and dining rose 2.5 percent.

    NOT planning to pack your own lunch today? You may want to think again, because households will have to find up to $76 a week extra this year(2010) as the cost of living soars.

    In the first comprehensive analysis of its type, increases to utilities bills and public transport fares, likely changes to school fees and health insurance, plus predicted rises in mortgage repayments. The staggering result – by the end of 2010, annualised costs could be $4000 higher than in the year just completed.

    Leading the charge upwards is mortgage repayments. Home-loan rates are widely forecast to rise by 1 percentage point this year. On a $300,000 mortgage that will add about $44 a week to repayments.

    The next biggest increase is private school fees. These are anticipated to rise by as much as 7 per cent. A school charging $15,000 in 2009 will lift its fees by $1050 – or about $20 a week.

    Electricity bill increases of up to 12 per cent have been flagged by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal.
