Support for Luca for sheriff
Dear to publisher,
I have read with interest many of the “Letters to the Editor” concerning the race for sheriff of El Dorado County.
Most voters desire a positive campaign, but there are many who only speak negatively of their candidate’s opponents. We think all six candidates are qualified to run the sheriff’s department and would not have the backing of their supporters if they were not people of good character.
We do, however, feel Bob Luca’s education, experience and qualifications make him the best candidate. He was the chief of the California Bureau of Information and as such supervised a staff much larger than the sheriff’s department. He developed the worldwide security department for E-Trade; again heading a staff larger than the sheriff’s department. His wide experience with budgets gives Bob the tools he needs in order to deal with these difficult economic times. He has done it before. In addition he has extensive “street” experience as well having worked undercover fighting gangs and drugs.
Bob has traveled throughout the county in a variety of venues, including walking neighborhoods, meeting with citizens and listening to their concerns and ideas. One concern always stands out; they want a sheriff who will lead a department that addresses the new problems that our County is facing. They want new ideas and innovative programs. Bob Luca will fulfill the voter’s hopes for the Department.
Bob believes the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department needs new direction and leadership. We and many others agree with him. He has the support of more law enforcement officials, both in the county and throughout the region than all the other candidates combined. In addition, Bob has more support from the deputies in the Department than all the other candidates. They all know Bob Luca is the right man for the job of sheriff of El Dorado County.
Thank you for your coverage of this important race.
Joe and Marilyn Whiten, El Dorado Hills
P.S. Mr. Luca has declared that he will not accept a pension for the County if he is elected. Now, there is an excellent example of cost cutting and leading by example.
Dear Editor, In response to the recent letter of support for Bob Luca as Sheriff of El Dorado County, it seems Mr. Luca definitely has support from El Dorado Hills residents The Whiten’s, but doesn’t seem interesting that they have said almost word for word the same thing Mr. Luca has per his website and all (20+)of the forums verbatim. As far as having more deputies than any other canidate supporting him, of which he claims the number of 20 deputies and 1 LIEUTENANT out of a department of around 400, I ask how that is a majority of support among the department over the other candidates? I do find it amazing that the letter you have published here is from someone other than a Tahoe Basin resident for support, which brings me to write this. As someone who is closer to the Basin and travels to the area quite often, I find in talking with residents and buisness owners, that often their support is going in another direction, especially after the recent NRA endorsement of another candidate. I do however acknowledge the fact that he does have a great deal of Private Sector Experience and The Department of California Bureau of Information?, but still he admits to NO actual POLICE OFFICER experience, as in a patrol car making arrests and dealing with the public as a LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICER. I do however find Bob to be a nice enough guy but still I am not sure if he is the most qualified man for the job as OUR Sheriff of El Dorado County and the Tahoe Basin. By the way Bob where did you go in such a hurry after the Pleasant Valley Grange Forum? I also agree with Bob about change and a new direction, although I believe it should come from someone who has been with the EDSO and knows what works and what doesn’t and has what it takes to make those changes. In closing I would like to ask about the (P.S.) statement on Bob not taking the Pension for the County, as this is impossible as the pension comes with the job and is not something he can waive, like the salary offered. How are you going to payback all of the DEBT you’ve incurred during your campaign, which your upside down on? I guess it would be from the state pension you already enjoy, as you only work 1 day a month for the DA’s office and there will be no pension from the county there, unlike the fact if you were elected Sheriff? This making you a true double dipper of the taxpayers of El Dorado County, along with 2 others running for office of Sheriff, oops, Perez dropped out but I see where he endorsed both Hillman and Therkildsen of which none of these 3 will recieve My VOTE.
The Bureau of Information is a typo as most informed people probably realized. Bob worked for the Bureau of Investigation for the State of CA. The endorsements speak for themselves. See for yourself.

@Clayton Phillips might want to consider the other candidates and how it will impact the County. All of the other candidates will get a pension for the rest of their lives if they become Sheriff paid for by the citizens EDC. Not so with Luca.
Regardless….pension or no pension that shouldn’t be the issue for the voters. What the voters should be concerned with is the best and most qualified candidate for the job.
It is time to professionalize the role and hold candidates to higher experience and educational standards. Experience outside the county and in the private sector can only help EDC as we face more crime and problems coming from outside our local communities. Clearly many of the current officers agree.
I appreciate Mr. Philpps’ comments and questions. A few things:
1. The letter writer who began this strong inadvertantly erred. Bob Luca was Chief of the California Bureau of INVESTIGATION (CBI) for 10 years. There, he partnered with sheriffs and police chiefs up and down the state rolling out programs targeting sexual predators and gangs. Three programs listed on Bob Luca’s site are used in El Dorado County today. => Long story short; he has the right experience.
2. It’s a fact that more deputies publicly endorse Bob Luca than the other candidates combined. As is the case in most law-enforcement races, a small percentage of all sworn personnel put their names out there in writing…That is undertstandable. I find it very impressive that, among all public supporters inside the department, Luca has the strongest backing. Luca also fared well in a private vote that was never published.
3. Bob Luca can and will wave pension contributions to save taxpayer money. This has been researched and confirmed.
4. Bob Luca has no campaign debt.
OMG; Bob Luca supporters read like the good old boys of old.The same old BS that produced Hal Barker, the flake of flakes, the Worshiplllll Master that advertised that another flake Dan Lundgren would be at his installation of WP.Guess who showed in his place? give up? Danny’s wife. She had a non-show job in Folsom as a CONFIDENTIAL ANALYST. When asked what her job description was, the answer ” It’s Confidential” Kerry is now in charge as their City, OMG
Here’s what I don’t understand: “Why are so many people running for the sheriff position? What is so enticing about this job, compared to other elected offices that can’t even get more than one candidate?”
