Nevada counties looking to stop state’s money grab

An advisory question on whether the Nevada Legislature should obtain the consent of local governments before taking away revenues or imposing new functions will be on the Washoe County ballot Nov. 2.

With the county commission’s unanimous approval today, Washoe became the second county in Nevada to approve the ballot question. The Nevada Association of Counties is asking all 17 counties to approve the ballot question, said Jeff Fontaine, NACO executive director.

If approved by voters, “this would really serve as a message to the Legislature that the voters want their local tax revenues to pay for local services,” Fontaine said.
