More people are expressing interest in the South Lake Tahoe City Council race.

Joy Curry, Steve Kubby, Adrian Gooch, Elizabeth Hallen and Doug Cichowicz have taken out papers.

They join Tom Davis, Angela Swanson, Georg May and Claire Fortier.

None of them has turned in their papers.

Documents must be turned in by Aug. 6. If an incumbent does not run, that deadline is extended to Aug. 11.

Councilman Jerry Birdwell hasn’t made his decision public. Councilmembers Kathay Lovell and Bill Crawford are not seeking another term.

The lone candidate to qualify for the Nov. 2 election is David Olivio, who is running for treasurer.

It sure would be nice to have a new group on council. One that is transparent with the locals who they work for by election.

Does Steve Kubby live in the city? He used to be over at Squaw. If he’s who I think he is, the marijuana dispensaries would be in like Flint!

Steve Kubby is my neighbor. He is a very nice, genuine guy and I support him 100%.

Some of these are the same old song. But a few newbees would shake up the place like Liz she owns Hot Gossip and would be an interesting choice given all that’s going on in the City. Steve is an honesty guy and Angeloa, Claire, Joy, they’ve all been around and know their stuff. But the rest, I don’t think so. May’s got nothing to offer. Gooch, former city employee, not a chance. Same for Tom Davis , he got us in this mess, his history and the problems he’s brought to our city should be on everyone’s mind when you go to vote.

I hope we can all become very educated about these candidates, and make some good choices in November.

I especially appreciate the ones who have come forward with no personal agendas, but just want to do what’s right for the community. Let it be known that we will back you guys against any shenanigans by the remaining council members.

Which among these are leaders? I’ll be asking all of them to provide examples of their leadership skills how and when they’ve been able to bring people together, how they’d show leadership in handling the grand jury report. We’re looking for experienced managers if you don’t have that, don’t run. Looking forward to the public forums to put some questions to these folks.

John, none are experienced leaders. I can’t find one of them that has led a team of more than a few people or managed a legal, financial or service team of employees.

Perhaps its too idealistic to find such a candidate when the pool is so small and folk with that type of experience are currently working full-time.

Perhaps if the council meetings were at night, more people could step up.

Some city staff would probably like days off for snow sports and water sports. Worth considering on a once or twice a week basis. Public could also attend night meetings easier with kids, school and work day conflicts. Seems only retired people and agency staff make the meetings anyway.
