Golf fans must choose between celebs and pros
By Dan Hinxman, Reno Gazette Journal
The Reno-Tahoe Open and American Century Championship, the area’s two prominent golf tournaments, are the same week this year — July 12-18 — for the first time in the history of the two popular events.
“That’s unfortunate, isn’t it?” local golf enthusiast John Coats said.
The tournaments have been three to six weeks apart since the RTO, a PGA Tour event, began in 1999 at Montreux Golf & Country Club. That was the ninth year for the ACC, a celebrity tournament at Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course that annually draws celebrities including Michael Jordan, John Elway and Ray Romano.
Maybe the Golf will end up like the Hot August nights move to Long Beach.
I don’t think it’s actual golf fans that attend the American Century event anyway. That’s as much about good golf as celebrity ski events are about good skiing. It’s star watching, not sports.
Dog woman, the Edgewood golf course is over priced and the difficulty is sub-par.Heavenly the same way, more marketing power for the sub-par skier as the black diamonds are far in between, just another expensive burger shop.
Any real pros would laugh at the course.
Plus Edgewood doesn’t have the 6 plus million to give away in purse cash,it’s just a golf course on the lake, and turkeys that play it once don’t really return,it’s a CLICK for Chumps.
Get those dog cigars out their face and maybe we can see the stars above with better clarity than spoiled people in noisy Lear jets.
