Labor Day begins season of fall events on South Shore
Labor Day at Lake Tahoe South Shore is the kickoff to Indian Summer season with fireworks, more warm weather and a multitude of events and entertainment.
A special pyrotechnics display highlights the weekend. The fireworks are visible throughout town with numerous vantage points including the Tahoe Queen and M.S. Dixie II paddle-wheelers, Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, Regan, and Nevada beaches.
A simultaneous broadcast to music will be featured on KRLT FM-93.9 and KOWL AM-1490.
Launched from three offshore barges, the display will ignite the alpine sky Sept. 5 at approximately 8:30pm.
With the average high temperature for September in the 70s and plenty of sunshine, fall boasts all of summer’s glory, with fewer crowds and discounts at area attractions.
The 8th annual Tour de Tahoe Bike Big Blue will have participants circumnavigate the lake Sept. 12.
For ladies only, the Aflac Iron Girl Triathlon is Sept.19.
Run, walk, swim, paddle, peddle or golf during one of the many Lake Tahoe Marathon events, Sept. 22-26.
The inaugural Lake Tahoe Restaurant Week, Sept. 5-12, offers pre-fixe menus for $20, $30 and $40 at 29 restaurants around the lake. www.tahoerestaurantweek.com
The Kokanee Salmon Festival on Highway 89 on the South Shore is Oct. 3-4. The Kokanee Salmon Run includes a Kids Fun Run, 5k, 10k and half marathon along the trails near Fallen Leaf Lake where Aspens are changing color reflected in glass-like water. when is octoberfest?
I’m already seeing lots families moving out.
Looks like the town on it’s way back to the norm of few traffic jams but the “with fewer crowds and discounts at area attractions.”I still believe are nothing but hype……….nothing in prices goes down in south shore,it’s a fact of life.
Still seeing all the locals from the lake shopping at the cheaper priced valley discounts Stores.
Get ready “It’s going to be a cold winter”………….Blow off Heavenly, get a Kirkwood pass..it’s cheap, last all winter long ,don’t have to put up with all the lake tourist skiing sideways instead down the fall line. Heavenly doesn’t even come close to the skiers that ski the deep, people are a lot more friendly.
Over my years at the lake, I’ve become wise to the so called Heavenly in crowd of people, who think they are somebody, but nothing short of a fashion fair with no advance skiing styles just ego’s at the bar of their living condition, material goodies ,phony personalities.WhO NEEDS THAT BS?
Time for all the locals that worked the summer to take a vacation off the hill, let them pop their firecrackers in the sky while the rest sit on a ocean beach with no invasive species check points to make a easy day a long one.
I really like Heavenly, especially since it’s less than 2 miles from my house. I avoid the weekends and holidays; which totally solves the problem of the tourist crowds. Haven’t made it out to Kirkwood yet, but I will one day ;)
“h” does sound like something of a ski snob. Fine. Heavenly does have its issues, but it doesn’t take me 40 minutes to drive there. Less wear and tear on the car and the environment! LOL!
Dog when you have to figure time, wear tear on a car, your not a skier that desires the true fact of the sport,There’s many that can’t back a company that works it’s employees for nickels and dimes, pay nothing in taxes to support the local city and it’s needs ….
You got it backwards dog, the Heavenly intermediate crowd hasn’t figured out what steep means. They talk your ear off on the chair on how many years they lived here, what business they own or other crap no one cares to hear.
Strap on the boards, turn up the ipods, toke that medical grass, soak up some fresh Merlot, see you at the bottom.
There’s not one soul going to make me believe Heavenly nothing more than a over priced tourist Hive, full BS pot smoking patrollers that feed their labs breakfast at their kitchen table while the wife barks for attention on the floor , while Jane from Utah With the pour in pants asks where’s the advance runs at? I see it all the time,Got bunch these patrollers live next door for years, sometimes you get the impression they can walk on water, all the Kirkwood pass holders get the biggest laugh on their ego’s of being somebody.Hell they come home toke up at lunch time, pound a few suds, haul back up to the 5 mins away, drag off someone who fell out the chair because they don’t practice what they preach.
The two different resorts are like nigh ,day ,in quality of snow, people who work there, the people who play there, and the mountain that kicks your butt if you are on top your game.
HOME LAND SECURITY SHOULD SCREEN THEIR HIGH EXPLOSIVES EXPERTS MORE OFTEN WITH HAIR TEST , THE ONE WE’VE SEEN DOING THE BLASTING UP AT HEAVENLY ARE SO TOKED UP THEY ARE LUCKY TO MAKE THE CHAIR ON TIME.
OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS WE’VE SEEN PEOPLE FALLING OUT CHAIRS,ZIP LINE FOUL UPS,PEOPLE POINTING THEIR FINGER AT EACH OTHER BUT NO ONE TAKING THE RESPONBILTY TO SAY THEY WERE AT FAULT.
NOBODY NEEDS ADVICE AFTER THE MATTER OCCURS,THEY NEED CASH FOR THE IDIOTS THEY HIRE WITH NOTHING BETWEEN THEIR EARS BUT RESIN,BEER, BEFORE WORK.
OOooooohhh. ‘Scuse me. Guess I’ve been put in MY place.
I always knew I wasn’t good enough to be called a REAL skier. The smile on my face obviously isn’t enough.
P.S. When I moved to Tahoe in 1980 the insult of choice was, “Aaaahhh your mother skis Boreal.” I guess now that would be Heavenly?
Whatever floats yer boat.
lol, I can’t even imagine where all that pent up anger comes from…
And, this is an article about Fall events? Sure got off topic!
All right ” h “, whoever you are, you crossed the line. The Heavenly Ski Patrol is the most trained, well prepared, devoted, caring, passionate group of professionals that I have seen anywhere in the Ski Resort industry. No post control releases, numerous trauma and medical saves, high angle rescues, succesful all night searches, thousands and thousands of stabilization and transport injuries off the hill, public outreach and education, fundraising for local charities, and all of this sometimes after getting up at 3 AM, fighting through unplowed roads, to light an explosive held between your legs and get the mountain open on time. ” h ” or whoever you are, would you like to back up your words and ski around with me and be a part of the constant and wide variety of situations that could either cause serious injuries or safely control a scene after the fact. I promise to be considerate of your abilities. I have been there for 16 seasons ( some members of the team 45 and counting ) and your baseless assumptions are contrary to what the staff has been working on diligently and that is to be the most safety orientated and professional ski patrol in the country. So come on in, look me up, I’m a supe there, heck, I’ll get you a ticket, but don’t come in with the non complimentary, vortex of negativity, no solution, closed mind that you have demonstrated on this blog and all the other articles that you have responded to in the past. Is that possible?
H you are a joke. I have boarded every resort here since the old Echo summit days, and while I agree with your viewpoint that Heavenly does not do enough to support the City insofar as infrastructure degredation, contribution to youth organizations, and has more crowds than K-wood, I have to respectively disagree with your synopsis of the patrollers.
Yeah, I’m sure you are trolling for smack cause I truly don’t think you know what you are talking about on this one. Go back inside your shell, relax, and try to get you crap together.
A TIP OFF OF THE LOCAL INSIDE SCOOP ,I’ve BEEN IN OUT WITH THESE ICONS(CLOWNS) AND BELIEVE ME YOU ARE IN FOR A SCHOCKER.
CHIP YOU JUST TAKE CARE OF KYBURZ, HE’S THE ONLY ONE WITH DOG SENSE.
If you don’t believe it,bring in the employees, line em up,hold the bottle at Barton, that tell you the true story Chipper .
And by the way, don’t let any the patrols wives that work in Barton be part the test, they are just as bad as the rest.
How fast can you do Mr Chips?
Maybe it’s time for some new faces on the team Mr. Chips!
You wanted fireworks “NOW YOU GOT EM”
