In El Dorado County, it pays to stick around.

The county’s response to a Bee inquiry last week into the compensation of top city and county managers omitted the county administrator’s “longevity pay.”

That incentive increased County Administrator Gayle Erbe-Hamlin’s annual salary from the $180,000 base pay reported by The Bee to an actual take-home pay of $202,545.

The adjustment boosts El Dorado County’s current top executive pay from 13th to 10th highest among the Sacramento region’s 22 city managers and county administrators.

Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that a government worker made that kind of money!

I would never want to deny someone “just” compensation, but that amount seems to be about double what would be reasonable.

I would start with the big salary CEO’s, athletes, and actors first, if it weren’t for California’s dire financial situation. Looks like a lot of cleaning is needed throughout all levels of government in California.

It’s incredible that 1) these civil servants make extra money to the tune of more than I make in an entire year just for being there for a few years and 2) the county neglects to be transparent about the information. Civil servants make two and three times what the citizens who are paying their salaries make! And they have guaranteed pensions and medical benefits to boot. Our servants have become our masters.

As the El Dorado County Grand Jury has been calling El Dorado County government “DYSFUNCTIONAL” for over ten years, what’s new. This is just the tip of the iceberg how the supervisors spend your money and operate with great inefficency.
    Sort of like SLT works,eh.

I looked at the county’s budget online (Under the auditor-controller’s site).

I compared 1999 to 2009 salary and benefits totals… and each department had a 200 percent INCREASE…. except the County Administrator’s department…. they had an INCREASE of 410 percent….. in Salaries and benefits ALONE.

Still no one will write about this other than your Blog…. Thank you.
