V&T train detrailment closes Highway 342 near Gold Hill
By Reno Gazette-Journal
Highway 342 near Gold Hill remains closed this morning after a V & T train derailment on Sunday night.
The road will remain closed until at least 9 a.m. Monday while crews work to get the train back on the rails, Nevada Highway Patrol spokesman Chuck Allen said.
Wow! We took the family on the train on Sunday. Guess it derailed when it was heading back up to Virginia City after dropping all of us off in Moundhouse.
Info from V&T officials:
All passengers were safely escorted from the Virginia & Truckee Railroad yesterday after a mud slide caused by a flash storm in the Eastern Sierra resulted in a partial engine derailment between Carson City and Virginia City.
The engine will be back into place today and the V&T will resume its regularly scheduled weekend operations this Friday. The historic route from Virginia City to Gold Hill is operating today with its normal schedule being resumed tomorrow.
