40,000 pot plants found near Markleeville

Marijuana plants with a street value of $30 million were uncovered south of Markleeville last week.

Alpine County sheriff’s officials believe the nearly 40,000 plants were part of a Mexican cartel grow.

U.S. Forest Service employees worked with deputies to rid the drainages and ridges of the plants.
