$30,000 grant helping restore Truckee River watershed

The Truckee River Watershed Council received a matching grant of up to $30,000 a year for five years from the Martis Fund for their Together for the Truckee Society.

“The impact of this leadership gift has already served as inspiration to others to come along side the Martis Fund and support the restoration of the Truckee River watershed,” Lisa Wallace, executive director of the Truckee River Watershed Council, said in a press release. “We thank the Martis Fund for helping society donations go even further.”

Together for the Truckee Society provides an opportunity for community members to join together to protect water quality and restore habitat in local rivers, streams and lakes.

The Martis Fund will match pledges each year up to a total of $30,000 a year, a potential grand total of $150,000.

So far 19 individuals, families and local businesses have contributed in 2010, resulting in $26,000 toward the match.
