alpine• What’s new?: JMA Ventures, the ski resort’s parent company, has added the West Shore Café of Homewood to its list of properties; mountain facilities upgrades undisclosed as of press time.

• What’s special about Alpine?: Alpine Meadows’ No. 1 focus is on the mountain, offering the best on-snow experience possible. Guests attracted to Alpine enjoy the resort for its casual, genuine atmosphere – not for the shopping and not for the spa. They visit for the pure mountain experience, which happens to include a 6-minute ride from the base lodge to the top of the mountain. Take into account seven powder bowls, many tree descents and immaculately groomed trails. Then, there’s the friendly vibe.
