Cloud seeding money comes through for region

Cloud seeding operations within the Lake Tahoe and Truckee River Basin can proceed this winter following action today by the Truckee Meadows Water Authority.

TMWA’s board of directors approved $155,000 to go toward cloud seeding in the Tahoe-Truckee area. The action follows an earlier action by the Western Regional Water Commission to provide up to $100,000 for cloud seeding during the winter of 2010-2011.

The money will allow the Desert Research Institute to run five cloud seeding generators in the mountains west of Tahoe.

    I thought we got plenty of moisture last winter/spring without seeding the clouds. Or did they? The rivers had more water lasting longer this summer than usual.

    Closing Echo Summit May 1st for road work. Hope they take everything into consideration.
