Flood advisory issued, snow level dropping

Last night’s thunderstorm was only the beginning, as a winter weather advisory is in effect for the Lake Tahoe region until 11am Tuesday. The National Weather Service in Reno is warning of snow at elevations above 8,000 feet, with 4-8 inches expected through Tuesday morning. Periods of snow are likely to continue at higher elevations through Wednesday.

Heavy rain and hail will fall at lower elevations Monday night, with a half an inch of rain or more leading to increased pooling on roads and rising streams. Check conditions before heading into the backcountry or over mountain passes, and drive with caution.

Sunny skies will return toward the end of the week, with temperatures back to the mid-60s by the weekend.
