South Tahoe, El Dorado salary stats finally on state website
South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County salary information were a little late in getting posted to the state website, but the figures are there now.
The California controller’s office in an attempt to be transparent and in the wake of the Bell scandal in Southern California asked all cities and counties to provide salary information.

Uh-oh, sounds like “something” just hit the fan. Adjusting city employee salaries(especially for a city of our size) to reflect the current state of the economy should be a top priority for the new city council. Going to war with the TRPA now seems like an even worse idea than it did before.
I’d like to know why the police chief made $224,000. The public works street supervisor made $151,000. The public works fleet manager made $184,000. A police officer made $112,000. These amounts are way out of line and I’d like to know why. Get Alice Jones in there to tear this budget apart and cut the fat. We need to understand where the money goes and an accountant in City Council will promote transparency. Elect Alice Jones!
It appears those numbers represent overtime. What is more disturbing is the amount of overtime the report shows for almost the entire Fire Department. I don’t recall many fires requiring all those hours. What gives?

Froggy, from what I understand sometimes firefighters get called away to fight fires in other cities / counties. Just like at Angora we had firefighters coming in from all over. Often the local jurisdiction is compensated from a federal / state fund for emergency fires type of thing.
Yet the other side of the coin, from what I know most of the local fire departments are understaffed (similarly to police). If someone gets sick, someone else has to come in and fill in, thus overtime. Cheaper to pay someone overtime 10% of the time than it is to hire more people.
That is if I understand things correctly.
I would like to point you to your own link which shows salaries for the airport from the director down to the airport maintenance crew earning a total of $361,284 in 2009. This in conjunction with the costs expended for consultants almost every year seems a little high, don’t you think? Does the air show bring in that much money or business?
