South Lake Tahoe is looking for people to fill its city commissions and boards.

» Sustainability Commission
How to apply:
Applications are available at the city clerk’s office at 1901 Airport Road, South Lake Tahoe or online.
The deadline to apply is Dec. 17.
Friends and party pals of the Machine no doubt will win.
Don’t be so quick to assume that Alex. People serve on commsissions on a volunteer basis and the ones I know (including myself) do so out of a sense of duty and desire for a better community. I have often and publicly criticized city policies–especially the lack of non-motorized transportation options and coordinated traffic signals–and was still appointed to the Sustainability Commission.
Do you have to be a city resident to be on a commision? How about a city property owner, but not resident?
Stephen,
A search of the City website under Boards and Commissions did not reveal any specific residency requirements. Here is the text direct from the website:
“City Boards and Commissions
Citizens have an opportunity to participate in the implementation of local policies by serving on a board or commission. Listed below are the current Boards and Commissions of the City of South Lake Tahoe. All of these meetings are open to the public. We welcome your participation.”
Since all commissions meet regularly (some more so than others)and make recommendations on issues specific to South Lake Tahoe, it seems unlikely to me that the council would appoint someone who does not at least reside in El Dorado County. Check with the City Clerk for clairification.
Steven,
Only the Planning Commission is limited to residents of South Lake Tahoe. The other commission seats are available to, “Tahoe basin portion of El Dorado County residents.” This comes from a flyer distributed by the City Clerk.
And why would City residents want a County resident to represent us on a Commission? It seems appropriate for County residents to occupy El Dorado County seats, but not those assigned to the City. If the Commission is a joint Commission then each jurisdiction will have allotted positions.
Sorry Steven, but I want a fellow City resident to represent my interest.
LOL@ Centurion…BMBC.
Tom I never assume, time will tell.
If county or out-of-state residents want to serve on city commissions, let them also pay the higher taxes that city residents are burdened with.
