On Nov. 11 at 8am, Ryder Evans will speak at the Soroptimist International of Tahoe Sierra meeting about ShelterBox.
ShelterBox is an international relief charity that delivers emergency shelter, warmth and dignity to people affected by disaster worldwide. This organization responds instantly to disasters delivering aid as quickly as possible to the people who need it most.
Evans is on the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue team, which has ties to this international organization.
ShelterBox is helping with the relief from the tsunami in Indonesia.
ShelterBox relies solely on public donations.
The Soroptimis meeting, which includes breakfast and coffee, is at the Lake Tahoe Senior Center at 3051 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

Shelter Box is a great charity organization started by a Rotary club in England in 2000. Their website has some great information: http://shelterbox.org/. This year alone over 96,000 boxes have been deployed!
Rotary Clubs in our district (there are 54 of them) responded to the disaster in Haiti by buying dozens of boxes ($1000 each) to help families displaced by the earthquake.
Ryder is past President of Tahoe Douglas Rotary and now part of the ShelterBox response team. Each green box contains a tent and basic supplies, including a stove, to help a family of 10. The pictures of some disaster sites will show 100s of these tents, side by side, helping the victims.
Would be a nice meeting to attend and learn about this wonderful charity!
