A highlight of the ceremony included Hannink’s father, Bruce, “pinning on” his son’s badge.

Hannink graduated in 2005 with a bachelor’s degree in history from Dordt College in Iowa. Despite living in relatively flat places, Hannink is a snowboarder.

Hannink’s first week includes a variety of administrative tasks. Next week he’ll begin working the streets with field training Officer Ric Martinez.
