Principal shot to death in Placerville
By Kim Minugh and Bill Lindelof, Sacramento Bee
The principal at Louisiana Schnell Elementary School in Placerville was shot to death today in his office on campus.
Sam LaCara, 50, died at Marshall Hospital from a single gunshot wound, said Placerville Police Chief George Nielsen.
The suspected shooter has been identified as John Luebbers, 43, a custodian at the school. Luebbers has been arrested.
The shooting was reported to emergency personnel about 10:40 this morning.
Marinas said “every available law enforcement” has been sent to the school to help secure the scene.
One shooter, One victim and EVERY AVAILABLE LAW ENFORCEMENT resource is sent to secure the scene. Sounds like overreaction based on a CYA way of running a government department.
All it takes is one shot to draw the Hive….
There has to time for discovery to take the right action.
Seriously……..a man is shot and killed in a school full of children and you think sending all available personnel is too much! Shame on you! Our children deserve every bit of protection they can get in such a vulnurable situation!
I agree with Rhonda. When our children are in danger and the level of danger is unknown, send everyone! You can always let them leave after the threat is gone.
What a sad state of affairs that a school principal loses his life while on the job. What the heck is wrong with that custodian???
It’s incredibly sad. While watching the news I see parents who are frustrated that it took a while to get their own children out of the classrooms. I hope everyone understands the importance on safety that schools have put forward over the years and it’s important that everyone appreciates that schools have a process in place to prevent any harm to their kids; that includes a formal check out process that they need to conduct. Also know that emergency personnel will respond to schools. That’s their job. It’s what they do. They go “into” danger, they don’t opt out. The school and community will need to support each other.
Tahoeadvocate… What’s the matter with you? Someone needs to explain to you how these types of circumstances are handled, your way off! Thank you every available officer and anyone else for your efforts.
How sad that “tahoeadvocate” doesn’t realize the significance of this event and the potential danger to literally hundreds of children. Law enforcement did the right thing and the school district did the right thing by initially locking down all the schools in the general vicinity until it was determined that there was no further threat. I would expect no less from our own law enforcement and school communities.
