Trash update: STR not able to service all routes

image_pdfimage_print

STRSouth Tahoe Refuse has pulled some of its trucks from routes because the roads were not plowed and the garbage trucks were getting stuck.

The South Shore trash officials say to pull cans back inside and put them back out on the regular trash day next week.

They missed us on Wed. They miss us a lot.

There was no service on Black Bart Ave. Friday. One of the first streets to be plowed! When asked if the were going to do the route on Saturday, they said “they don’t work on Saturday”. Translation: We don’t want to pay overtime. They said the roads were too dangerous and that if my garbage was a problem I could transport it to the transfer station at no dump charge. Is it safer to put one fifth of the community on the roads with garbage obstructing their views and leaking in their cars? Of course there was no offer to adjust my bill. STR got their rate increase and we can deal with our garbage. What a gold mine. I see vacation home owners that put out trash twice a year and pay 100%. STR collects from everyone and helps finance the re-election campaigns. STR will get the next rate increase and give the same ‘service with a smell’.

They have such a monoply that they don’t
have to give you a refund when they miss
a pickup! It’s time for competition instead of a rate incresse.

They don’t work, yet they still get paid. STR does not give us a rebate when they don’t pick up. Nice to get paid when you don’t work! Who is going to pick up all the trash at the vacation rentals. The ones in my neighborhood over flow in 1 week, now it will be 2!! And why didn’t they alert us right away. Trash is been out in my neighborhood since Wed. night, and now it’s buried. Thanks STR!

I dont hear any of you bitching when you put out 30 or 40 bags of pine neddles in the spring and they get picked up at no charge. Mother nature made it almost impossible to travel on wed. sometimes we have to bear with it. You are probaly the one that goes 50 mph when its snowing and dont care about anybody else on the road. THATS LEAVING IN TAHOE get over it!!!!!!!!

I have lived in Tahoe for over 20 years and garbage has never been missed. Garbage pick up has mised us twise this season. What makes the snow any different this year? We have had much worse seasons in the past.

I like Bills answer, been plowing for days it seems, these people go to damn fast, sometimes when backing out berms over 8 -10 foot high.(can’t see)people don’t slow doWn ‘your breaks work, get off the horn”,slow the f……down.
PEOPLE in units need to give all snow removable a break, get off OUR a–…

These missed days are not like the previous years I’ve seen, like space ships unloading cargo, the mother ship(big yellow trash truck stays in the area )but the smaller units buzz pickS the trash pollen,
(CANS)bring back to a truck dumping yarders, least that’s the way it use to be up here on saddle road, next to dobbie rock area…we never missed a day.
JEFF ,YOU KNOW THE SERVICE IS SLIPPING AND YOU’ER SLIPPING,YOUR GREED IS GROWING.I use to sit NEXT TO YOU IN THE CLASS ABOUT KIDS TEARING UP THE DOWN STAIRS WITH 2X4’S , YOU DECKED HIM.I thought maybe you learned something?

Your over confidence going to lead to another straying of some kind.

Give the people what they pay for .

It would be resonable for all houses to have a “no Bear can” to help with garbage containment all year. Neighbors should not need to look at or pick up other folks garbage; residents or week-enders.

I’ve had STR pick up garbage at my house for the last 28 years and they’ve never missed a day until this week…amazing. I have no complaints but a suggestion. Perhaps STR can post updates on their website if they aren’t going to pick up and if people should pull in their cans. Or, an email blast…something to communicate the situation.

If trash pick up was optional , then it would be my choice to put up with STR’s policies or not pay and take my trash to the transfer station myself. But when I’m forced to pay for a service, it better be top notch and fair! In the county, the agreement is for them to pick up all household waste and yard waste every week, for the fee they charge. If they don’t pick up, why should we pay?

Its time to allow some competition. What happened to free enterprise.

  12. Robert says - Posted: February 20, 2011

Bill, the 30 or 40 bags of neddles and such are part of their over priced service. 50% of the homes are part times who pay 100% of of the rate.
Teresa, bear boxs are ok but they need to be dumped weekly so when they don’t pick up it sets on the side of the road for a week. It’s time for Our supervisor to let competition come in!

  13. Bill says - Posted: February 20, 2011

I am a 51 year resident of Tahoe and can count the number of days the service has been missed on only my 2 hands, and this is one of the worst winters I can remember in a long time, STR has offered that if you need to get rid of your trash they will let you dump it for free. When it is snowing do you ***** about stores that run out of food because delivery trucks cant get in? does the power company give you a rebate when the power goes out and those part time people still come up and clean up thier pineneedles and put out 30- 40 bags. Why is it when something you dont like happens you have to attack and blame someone. Do you volunteer to help our locals in need or do you sit back and blame the goverment. Not everyone or everything is perfect. With this said TRPA controls where our garbage goes because they dont allow it to be dumped in the basin, and STR is trying to meet the goverment standards as to how much recyclable garbage can go to a dump so looking at the overall picture for $6.41 cents a week to pickup our garbage is not to much to ask. Now all of you who have nothing to do go out and help someone and I guess you will ***** about the next person or company that cant do something LIFE IS TO SHORT TO ***** ENJOY IT WHILE YOU CAN

I wish free enterprise was allowed in the refuse business but its not. Put contract out to bid. Short of this STR does a better job than the city of S.L.T. and/or ElDorado County could ever do!!! And if it did go to bid STR would be low bidder.
