Warning: Reports of coyotes being shot and skinned

image_pdfimage_print

To the community,

This is to warn all local residents who like to walk their dogs along Cathederal Road off the Sno-Park parking lot. Someone is shooting and skinning coyotes in that area. California Department of Fish & Game, as well as Animal

Control have been notified and are investigating it. We can all help by keeping a sharp eye out for anyone with a firearm or who is acting suspiciously and report them to Animal Control.

With all the dogs running lose in that area while in the company of their owners they are in danger of being shot as well.

This kind of activity has no place in our forests, so let’s help put and end to it now.

Peter Hussmann, South Lake Tahoe

Where is this exactly? Hope they catch the shooter and skin them!

Cathederal Road is on the west side of Taylor Creek.

This has to be done at night, those creatures are too smart for day time action with people, bet you they are baiting them.
lots shots are being fired off at the new park behind Raley’s at night, hear them all the time around 12 to 1…and it’s a automatic firearm.
No one ever calls ..some, suggest it comes from the millionaires castles that sit next to the meadow off Daggett on the Nevada side by the high voltage lines where the creek runs on Parks property.
They got a lot wild life action there.

htmalit, you’re probably right. I was also thinking that anybody who knows how to skin a coyote can probably tell the difference between coyote and dog, therefore probably wouldn’t shoot a dog. But you never know. Either way, be careful out there, and keep your dog leashed or have total voice control. For your dog’s safety from those wiley coyotes.

Thank you, Peter, for bringing this tragedy to our attention. I hope the word spreads and the person or persons committing this horrendous act realize people will be watching out for them and choose to put an end to their actions.

    Mr. Hussman writes:

Perhaps his are not California forests. In California, it is legal to hunt coyotes, with no limit. From the California Fish and Game code:

Chapter 6. Nongame Animals, §472. General Provisions.

“Coyotes may be taken at any time of the year, in any number…”

Why is the California Department of Fish & Game wasting its limited resources investigating an activity that is specifically authorized by state law?

While searching/looking at this comment section I also noticed an article concerning coyotes attacking people and their children and house pets.

Why isn’t the FGC using its limited resources to track down, kill and skin these vicious varmints before they kill somebody.

Don’t expect your neighbors to abide by the state law. They are the same people who liked to be groped at the airport.
