The Senate Ethics Committee on Thursday declared that it has “substantial and credible evidence” that former senator John Ensign broke federal laws in his effort to cover up an extramarital affair he had with a political aide, referring its case to the Justice Department and Federal Election Commission.

In a highly unusual public rebuke, the bipartisan committee presented its case on the Senate floor, announcing it had voted unanimously to release its findings and request the Justice Department re-start a criminal investigation into the Nevada Republican’s actions.

“We have reason to believe Senator Ensign violated laws,” Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-Calif., the chairwoman of the panel, said during the speeches.

Boxer, reading from a report of the special counsel hired to handle the investigation, said that the evidence against Ensign was “substantial enough to warrant the consideration of expulsion” had he not resigned.

Defending that sacred institution of marriage from the gays John.
You really can’t do hypocrisy better than Christian conservatives do it.

At least the GOP fires their officials who behave badly. I don’t see Maxine Waters going anywhere. . .nor did Ted Kennedy till he DIED! That’s the only way you can drag bad Democrats out of office.

HAHAHA They never fired him. He refused to step down when his own constituents were calling for it. He only stepped down to avoid an intense investigation, which happened anyway. An adulterer, hypocrite, and potential felon. Why does that happen so often with social conservatives and people who speak out against homosexuality? There is more than just a pattern here.

“Fired” was just an expression. The point is, he is gone. Yet YOUR party of choice protects lots of people who commit violations of ethics regularly, and even murder. Want to talk about hypocrisy?

All politicians are unethical. Some are just the kind who will say that same sex marriage is a threat to marriage, and will cheat on their wives. They go use their political power to deny an entire group of people rights, by claiming that that group is a threat to marriage, and then they treat their own personal marriage with disrespect.
And then there are the Larry Craigs…. I have nothing against soliciting anonymous gay sex in a public bathroom, or smoking meth with a male prostitute. It’s the ‘all the while being homophobic’ part.

Fine. Ignore my point. Saying, “all politicians are unethical” is disingenuous. Y’all can bring up as many indescretions committed by Republicans as you want. We acknowledge them. But you just can’t seem to admit that your people are often worse.

If John Edwards had been involved in a movement to stay faithful to your spouses when they are terminally ill, I would agree. Fox News is doing a great job attracting african american voters to the GOP with their whole non controversy with Common, the ‘gangster rapper’, at the White House. Which is hilarious.

  9. dogwoman says - Posted: May 13, 2011

What does Common polluting the White House have to do with any of this?

  10. the conservation robot says - Posted: May 13, 2011

Obviously you know absolutely nothing about Common (or art) if you refer to him as ‘polluting’.
Go listen to the album ‘Be’. Think for yourself.

I’ve heard enough of his words to know that I don’t need to hear anymore of them.
And you need to back off of your superior attitude. People might enjoy talking to you more if you weren’t so condescending.

You judge an entire artist by a few lines, taken completely out of context, and don’t even bother to take into consideration the lyrics that end the piece. Worse, someone told that to you, and you accepted it as truth without question.
And won’t listen to anyone else, such as myself, who has been listening to Common for a decade and owns every album. I listened to ‘Be’ today.
    Ignorance is a choice.

Here are some lyrics from the scary black man gangster rapper:

We got arms but won’t reach for the skies
Waiting for the Lord to rise
I look into my daughter’s eyes
And realize that I’m gonna learn through her
The Messiah, might even return through her
If I’m gonna do it, I gotta change the world through her

“At least the GOP fires their officials who behave badly.”
Really? Since when? Ensign never got fired, he finally stepped down. All political parties just try to distance themselves from contraversy by doing the whole “they do worse” dance. Nobody is perfect but it really stinks when politicians try to hold others to higher standards than themselves. Obviously people still fall for it or there wouldn’t be this kind of back and forth.
