Caltrans today announced that construction has resumed on a $16 million environmental improvement project on Highway 89 between Highway 50 and the Alpine/El Dorado county line.

This final phase of the Luther Pass project will widen shoulders, rehabilitate and reconstruct drainage facilities.

This will allow roadway run-off to be directed to treatment collection facilities rather than Lake Tahoe and its tributary waterways.

The project is financed entirely by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
