Neighborhood traffic enforcement snares 41 drivers

Between June 23-25, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department deployed officers into the Bijou neighborhood in support of the Residential Neighborhood Traffic Enforcement Program.

During that deployment, 41 traffic related traffic stops were made by the officers. Sixteen were for stop sign violations and 16 were for speed related and nine for other traffic violations.

Fifteen traffic citations were issued and 26 written warnings were given out. One vehicle was impounded due to the driver being cited for a third time for not having a driver’s license.

Because this particular neighborhood has such a major traffic related problem, officers will be in the Bijou neighborhood this week.

As a reminder, the speed limit for all California residential roadways is 25 mph unless otherwise posted.

If you would like your street or neighborhood put on the list, call or email Sgt. Shannon Laney at (530) 542.6104, slaney@cityofslt.us. Provide your name, number and a description of the problem in as much detail as possible to include times of days the problem is most prevalent.
