Good move Mr. O save were ever you can. Cities is Ca. have police and fire depts. that are trained in both areas. That is something to think about but good job on this one.

It is a good move! Way back in ancient history, the 90’s, it became clear that SLT was on an unsustainable financial path. (The Housing Boom and a tax increase temporarily delayed confronting it until now.)

Anyway, Councilmen Davis & Cole were on the Council back then when they announced such a consolidation and it became part of a cost-cutting program that was named Destination 2000. None of the cost-cutting materialized (of course they never made a big announcement about that!) and now the current City Mgr. is left dealing with the failure to make such efficiency moves when they knew problems were forthcoming!

At one home I owned I contracted with a private fire department company. I paid $10 per square foot for my home. The local government dediced to have their own fire department, got rid of the contract service, and then I paid $30 per square foot for the same protection. Seems that government provided service costs more. Shouldn’t we consider subcontracting our fire protection. It could save the city millions.

Isn’t it Funny that the City Mgr. can cut the police chief position to save money but give the City Atty. a 5% pay raise to over $158,000 plus benefits and the city mgr who hired in at $175,000 a year and got a 3% raise in Feb. and is due a 5% this next Feb,he also gets 100% paid medical plus a City car and $500 a month car allowance plus his whole family is covered for medical at 100% and his P.E.R.S. retirement is paid 100% and the City gave him $12,000 to move to Tahoe for the job, While he continues to lay people off and threaten current employees with more lay offs if they don’t accept his program of current medical benefit cuts?
Would love to hear your comments on that!

The city manager has nothing to do with the city attorney’s employment. The City Council is responsible for those two positions.
