Three teenagers were reportedly caught tagging Bijou Community School in South Lake Tahoe on July 13.

Six South Lake Tahoe teens were at the scene that night, with only three being arrested. A fourth arrest is pending, according to officers.

Four of the six were actively engaged in marking the campus with graffiti, officers said.

“The others were interviewed and determined not to be involved in the graffiti, none of which appeared to be gang related,” police Sgt. Brad Williams said in a statement.

Time to start printing the delinquents’ names. If we want it to stop there needs to be a little shame involved.

Yeah, if they are under 18, violate the law and publish their names!

Not only publish their names, make it hurt financially. And I don’t mean a couple hundred dollars. How about $1000.00. And if that doesn’t work, start cutting off their fingers so they can’t push the button on the spray cans.

Have them pick up litter on Highway 50 wearing appropriately marked clothing. With signage advising passersby exactly what is going on.

Hey, Robot: off topic, but did you read about the guy in Austria who got his official license photo with the collander on his head because he’s a Pastafarian, part of the church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster? Several news stories online the last few days.

Of course. He will soon be the pope of our church once he passes a criminal background and credit check. Our creation story will be taught and our religious garments will be recognized and respected.

As a parent of a child at Bijou School I find this incredibly disappointing. A huge effort has been put into making significant improvements to Bijou and this kind of behaviour is inexcusable. Many parents spent countless hours creating that park, and many local business volunteered their time and significant funds. I would like to see these kids having to do a substantial amount of community service time, specifically at Bijou School, so they understand the full implications of their actions and the people that they have adversely affected. I hope the Sheriff’s department will include something of this nature as part of their restitution.

It’s time to have them buy the paint, prep the vandalized area, and start painting, in order to be responsible for their actions. I don’t think this is painful or humiliating, it’s practical. After all…they did not consider anyone else when they did it, let them undo it.

I would like to see pictures of their “art”. If they are the punks that have tagged our street they can come over and clean that up too. Heck, even if they didn’t do it I think their punishment should be to pay for and clean up all the graffiti around town. That might help them understand the impact of their actions.

I taught at that school and such selfish, thoughtless acts break my heart. Definitely they should do cleanup and repainting -and pay for the paint and brushes. And their parents should take some responsibility as well -then maybe they’d more closely supervise their children.

If the graffiti can be linked to any type of gang activity, perhaps it should be charged as a hate crime and make it a felony. Being rung up on a felony might slow these folks down.

James— Keep putting the pressure on. You are on the right track.
