Nonprofit releases first green directory in Nevada

A nonprofit group hopes the release of a new “green directory” will help Nevada attract more business and get the state one step closer to its goal of being a renewable energy leader.
The Nevada Institute for Renewable Energy Commercialization released the first edition of its Nevada Clean & Renewable Energy Product & Service Supply Directory this week.
The directory includes a list of more than 300 companies in the state that work in various fields of the renewable sector, including suppliers, contract manufacturers, assemblers and developers. The group first started soliciting company names for potential inclusion in June.
“Now that we have the list, we can go to the next phase, which is using what we know is available in the state for company attraction,” said Jim Croce, NIREC president and CEO. “A lot of renewable companies that have an interest in relocating to Nevada are looking for strategic partners in the state who can help them by providing components and services. This list shows those companies which businesses are here to support them.”
Croce expects the list to grow to at least 500 companies. The second edition is scheduled for an October release. NIREC has a contract with the state to provide quarterly updates to the list through the first quarter of 2012. It is uncertain how the list will be maintained after that.
