    Ms. Reed
I understand that 4 Firemen were fired yesterday from the City, one fired on the spot and 3 others were allowed to retire by October. Could you check this out and report on it.
    Thank you

This information posted by Xlocal is incorrect. The only change in personnel at the Fire Department is the resignation of Chief Lorenzo, as previously reported, which is effective September 1, 2011.

The City is in the midst of discussions with labor associations who were willing to meet and confer on issues to reduce expenses and help balance the FY 2011-2012 budget. The content of those labor discussions is confidential.

In March of 2011, when the City Council adopted a reorganization plan, the City Manager indicated the reorganization would achieve about half of the needed cost savings and the balance of those savings would need to come from collective bargaining concessions, preferably from pension and health care contributions. Absent these concessions, other cost saving opportunities would be pursued.
