Reno PBS station to initiate programming to address dropout crisis
By Reno Gazette-Journal
Reno PBS station KNPB Channel 5 recently received a $10,000 grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting to fund development of a program that seeks to inform the public on the dropout crisis and link parents to local educational resources and alternative learning options.
The station’s mission is to encourage awareness of the economic consequences of dropping out of school.
KNPB will host a meeting in October with Washoe County School District to discuss graduation barriers, such as homelessness and pregnancy. Participants include Children’s Cabinet, Sierra Nevada Journeys and Big Brothers Big Sisters.
