Opinion: Recognizing Heavenly’s gift to Bread & Broth

To the community,

Bread & Broth would like to again thank Heavenly Mountain Resort for the continued support in our Adopt-A-Day of Nourishment Program.

Volunteers from Heavenly help Bread & Broth volunteers serve those in need a well balanced nutritious meal. The team at Heavenly has been very generous in their efforts all year to help our cause.

Bread & Broth is able to continue its mission of feeding the hungry of South Lake Tahoe in large part because of the generosity of the local community. A $250 sponsorship covers the cost of food and beverages for the approximately 100 people who visit each Monday evening.

To find out how your family or business can Adopt A Day of Nourishment, contact Connie Blue at midwest2tahoe@yahoo.com or (530) 544.4945.

They have to back this program to keep cheap labor in the area, that’s about it.

They don’t do -hit for our community no matter what they bill themselves as.

It’s just kind of odd that we are being told of Heavenly donating, and not telling of the others who have. It comes across as PR for Heavenly and seems not genuine. I would rather hear it randomly, that wow, that Heavenly organization really steps it up for the community, not having to be told in a news article every time they donate anything.

If the Bread and Broth program is trying to stir up some donations, maybe it would be good to list everyone who has donated, and volunteered, rather than singling out one business. We actually might notice those we do business with, or are our neighbors, and this might spur us to donate.

It’s called PR–public relations. To fend off the constant criticisms of those who say that Vail/Heavenly does nothing for the community.

Blaise Carrig, former GM of Heavenly, stated multiple times that he would never donate to a service club; Rotary, Kiwanis etc., because then the service club gets credit and Heavenly/Vail does not. So at least when he was GM, it was all about credit and not doing good for the community!

Care: There are kudos and pictures in the media all the time about who has sponsored a Bread & Broth night. It costs the group several hundred dollars and they supply the workers that night. I see it in the Trib all the time.
