Finished “The Help” awhile back. A real page-turner; enjoyed it immensely. The movie, while very good, couldn’t have possibly conveyed all the sub-plots.
My wife is reading “Wicked,” supposedly based on “The Wizard of Oz.” I read it a couple of years ago and we both agree that it is too dark, too somber and just too weird. The expectation with such a book is to at least be true to the legend–its okay to twist a few basic facts, like the Good With being not so good and the Wicked Witch not so wicked–but too many liberties were taken. Highly do NOT recommend it.

I’m currently reading World Without End by Ken Follett. It’s sort of a sequel to his The Pillars of the Earth. Both excellent reads that I would highly recommend. Prior to that I read The Help, Water for Elephants, The Lincoln Layer and The King of Lies. All great books.

Just loved Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel. Worth every one of its 600 pages. You’ll not think again of the Tudors, Henry the 8th and his wives and especially Thomas Cromwell again in the same way.

I’m reading “The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer.” It’s a fascinating read about the evolution of cancer, highly recommended. It’s an important book on the subject, but immensely readable, a great blend of science and story.

I’ve been reading “The Shock Doctrine , the rise of disaster capitaism” by Naomi Klein. Not A happy feel good book but very well done and informative. I’ll recommend this book but it isn’t exactly fun to learn about how the economic policies of the U.S affect the world.

Just finished “Pol Pot” (highly recommend). Now reading “Where’s My Wand?” (It’s ok, nice light read). Next “Unbroken”.

I liked Wicked – but then I like dark stories.
I’m reading Keith Richard’s “Life”. Its a hoot and making me dig out all my old Stones music.
