Want free tickets to the Festival of Trees and Lights?
Beginning the week of Nov. 7, Lake Tahoe News in collaboration with the Barton Foundation will be giving away four packages of tickets to the annual Family Night during the Festival of Trees and Lights.
The Dec. 2 family night package includes tickets for six people to the festival and a group picture with Santa.
The Festival of Trees and Lights is a family oriented three-day extravaganza (Dec. 2-4) that brings the magic of the holidays to life for all ages, while at the same time raising money for the Barton Clinic.
Details about the contest will be forthcoming next week.
The contest is open to everyone who is part of Lake Tahoe News’ special NEWS subscriber list. All you have to do is send $40 to LTN, then you are added to the list, you will be sent a T-shirt as our thanks, and you qualify for this and other great promotions.
Send checks to Lake Tahoe News, P.O. Box 13406, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96151 or pay via credit card through PayPal on the website at the bottom right of the home page.
Please include your email address so we can ensure you are subscribed to receive the daily digest. To receive the daily email, which lists what has been posted in the last 24 hours, enter your email address at the bottom right of the home page.
Please don’t forget to include your mailing address and shirt size – S, M, L, XL or 2X.
(Older shirts are for sale for $15, but sizes are limited.)
Question – This article is not clear – who is getting the excess funds of the T-shirt purchase? Barton Clinic or Lake Tahoe News?
Just noticed that there is a tab for donations on Lake Tahoe News. Is Lake Tahoe News a 501c-3?
Thanks
LTN is not a 501(c)3.
LTN provides news for free to whomever wants to read it. In the last month, people in 103 countries in 2,575 cities logged in.
As was mentioned in a previous story/comment dialogue, LTN wants to remain a free news service. It also has free subscriptions — the daily digest that is sent to people each morning who enter their email address at the bottom right of the home page. These addresses will not be sold by the current owner.
LTN’s stream of revenue is ads and donations. The donations are in a way like a subscription fee — at least that’s how people phrase it when they donate. Another way LTN wants to increase it’s revenue stream is through being able to publish legals. However, this is a lengthy court process that requires proving we have paid subscribers. We are trying to go about this in a non-traditional way. That’s why you have noticed the request for $40 in exchange for a T-shirt and then the donor is placed on the special list which allows them to qualify for special perks — like the one this story is about.
This is the long answer to your question.
The short answers: LTN is legally a for-profit company. The money being collected is for LTN.
Sorry for any confusion. And thank you for your continued support of LTN as well as the Barton Foundation.
Kathryn Reed, LTN publisher
Sounds like a win-win-win-win — for LTN, Barton, winners and us readers!
Thank you!
