Judge taking a month to rule on Kindertown’s future
Kindertown Day Care will remain closed as El Dorado County Superior Court Judge Warren Stracener reviews charge brought against the South Lake Tahoe center by the state.
At a hearing last week in Placerville that was attended by supporters of day care owner Maria Barrows-Crist, Stracener said he would have a decision in a month.
Kindertown was closed earlier this month after the state Department of Social Services went to the appellate court.
Barrows-Crist represented herself in court.
“I correct every citation I get. Then they pile them together and use them against me. I feel like it’s double jeopardy,” Barrows-Crist told Lake Tahoe News. “I feel horribly discriminated against.”
The state does not return phone calls.

And indeed she has been. (discriminated against)
If she wins her, the state social services will just reload and come after her again.
It’s personal and state agencies should never get personal.
Amen to that pal. I will testify to the fact as well… dirty politics and corruption is alive and well on every level. Issues do become personal not only on an individual level but city, county, state and federal wide. “Reloading” is a kind word to use… but yes, they come and keep coming.
The sad thing is that no matter what decision the judge makes, Maria’s business has been irretrievably damaged. Her kids have all been moved to other facilities, her bus has been sold, her employees have moved on, she owes a small fortune to her attorney and her will is almost broken.
I agree with Dan that this has been all personal and state agencies should not get personal.
Too bad Maria cannot sue the state for loss of income and several other infractions. They seem to be immune.
