Service clubs are an important part of any community. They provide a service that otherwise wouldn’t be available were it not for a dedicated group of volunteers.

South Lake Tahoe is lucky to be blessed with several great service clubs. They raise money in order to give it to groups and endeavors in need of funds, they have hands on work projects, they provide fellowship the participants might not otherwise enjoy and they are informed on issues facing the world, the country and at home.

Especially in this day of budget cuts, more agencies and people turn to what a service club can provide them with, whether its a work project like putting in a new storage room, park, benches, climbing wall, books and more.

Thank you to the Soroptomists for always being there to donate their time and money to what our community needs. They have a great event!

I like what Rotary did at Bijou school because it’s also a community-wide improvement.

Service clubs are important for the community because they provide special things to this community that we would not be able to have without them.
They remind the community where we live, and why we live here..without them we would not be able to feel the spirit of giving.

I love this event and would LOVE to win the tickets. I like the variety of work the clubs do. It seems like we have so many for a small area. Is this because we have so many giving people or so many people in need? Either way — great job everyone!!!!

Did you, the previous 4 commentors send in $40 to LTN? Wow! I like this site, but would rather put my $40 on the real Calif. Lottery.

More than $40. Local news is worth it. I plan to write a check each year on LTN’s anniversary as my subscription. I’m not looking to get rich, I’m looking for news.

I think since LTN is using the soroptomist event to generate money for LTN’s own pockets, LTN should donate 50% of any $40 t-shirt fees / lottery entries, paid during this give away, to the Soroptomists.

Steven — should we all tell you and all businesses in Tahoe or anywhere where to donate. Common dude. Isn’t LTN donating by by providing free news? I’ve seen LTN donate to silent auctions.

JB-Bro, We will not agree on this issue, so maybe we will get lucky and someone with the appropriate authority from Soroptomists will let us know if auctioning off tickets to a Soroptomists event to make a profit is ok. I hope LTN paid full value for these tickets, I would expect nothing less from LTN.

Soroptimist International South Lake Tahoe was consulted about the parameters of the contest.

Being a “paid subscriber” to LTN allows those individuals to be entered in a variety of contests, including the give-away for tickets to the Festival of Trees and Lights put on by the Barton Foundation.

Any successful society thrives by those who give. Everyone gives in different ways.
Giving isn’t just about money. Giving isn’t something that ought to be judged or even questioned.

Too bad you have to justify what you offer Kae. Many of the non profits in town give away some tickets in order to generate more sales….a great way to advertise!

I appreciate what you do for our community. I feel sorry for those who have to try and look for something bad in every good.

I like that so many of service clubs are youth oriented. Some help the disadvantage and some give to the outstanding kids. It seems like there is an opportunity for everyone to “get” something.

Noun 1. service club – a club of professional or business people organized for their coordination and active in public services

This oversimplifies what a service club it. I would extend the definition to be: The backbone of any community.

I like that the service clubs put on a variety of events so there is something for everyone. I feel like paying my ticket is one way I give back. But if get these free tickets, I promise to bid on the silent auction!

Service club are the backbone of the South Shore community. I’ve never lived anywhere where they are so active and giving. Keep up the good work. I’d like to toast to that!

I’d like to say ditto to most of the comments, and add that I like how some of the club have “junior” clubs to get the younger set involved in their community.

Service clubs are needed in every community. We are lucky enough to have many in our small town of Tahoe. Without them many of our children wouldn’t have the things they have in their classrooms and some of our young adults wouldn’t be able to attend college without their help when they provide scholarships for them. I have been to many Soroptimist meetings, the morning group and the afternoon group, and the things they provide for our young people and people in need and other organizations that are here in our community to help people is astonishing. The Rotary Club is another group that gives and gives to our young people and community. They all have their special events so they can raise money to help communities, and each group supports each other. I would like to thank them all for their continued support and without our community coming together to give them support they wouldn’t be able to provide the things they provide. Thanks!!!

Hang in there Kae! You provide a great service to the community! Some just can’t help broadcasting their sour views…not entering but the service groups in Tahoe provide a great service to our local community particularly kids, women and services that provide for the less fortunate. Your promotion of these events is a great way to get people involved and support the good work these groups do!
