Opinion: Finding a cure for pains of medicinal marijuana
Publisher’s note: The following editorial is from the Nov. 4, 2011, Sacramento Bee.
There is no ideal solution to get California out of its medical marijuana quagmire. But two steps would be a huge improvement and help fix much of what is broken with Proposition 215, approved by voters 15 years ago Saturday.
If we’re going to have medical marijuana, more research is needed on what diseases and conditions can be treated, what doses work best and how the drug can be most safely ingested.
And that means getting marijuana off the federal government’s Schedule 1 list of drugs. What’s already known shows that marijuana does not belong in the same category as cocaine and heroin – drugs with high potential for abuse but without any medical benefit whatsoever.
This reasonable reform was recommended by the California Medical Association, which took the bold step last month in passing a resolution calling for legalization, strict regulation and, above all, more research.
Reclassifying marijuana would lessen the conflict between federal law and California and the 15 other states that have since allowed medical marijuana. A bill introduced in Congress this year would go even further, removing marijuana entirely from the list of controlled substances. While not legalizing marijuana, HR 2306 would limit federal enforcement to international and interstate smuggling and would let the states regulate pot.
Uh oh, common sense alert!
So where’s the Pot Guru comment,”Kubby”?
The Plant been here, being used in the states since the time of the Native Americans, it will be here when the aliens come to redeem their planet for lard butt fast food cattle on two feet Crowd , freeze dried earth loins, to haul to the next planet for space Wine, good martian love at fine earth view diner.’LOL”
That’s why they call it Weed, it grow anywhere , no resolution can stop the population from loving it ,even if all these mountain air freaks complain about odor.(how about the control burns bad air quality first, how that stinks burns your eyes, doesn’t do a damn thing for you).
I be willing to bet that the people complaining about pot farms terrible odor just have not had time to smell their own arm pits, dirty pants, wouldn’t admit they Stink!
But then some people always think their little place in the big world governed by more ordinances will fix the drugged up society.
Ask your doctor for more pills, insurance will pay to keep you happy or kill you in the process.
How do we regulate it? I believe that people who legitimately need it and use it properly should have that right. But when I see a perfectly healthy 20 year old with a “card” then it’s blatant abuse and the doctor who prescribed the card should be hung. If you’re young and want to smoke it do it the same way the rest of us did at 20 and don’t get caught.
The way the system works right now is a joke!
Cannabis was used 12 ways: clothing, paper, cord, sails, fishnet, oil, sealant, incense, food, and in ceremony, relaxation and medicine. For so the Lord said unto me, “I will take my rest and I will consider in my dwelling place like a clear heat upon herbs. For afore harvest, when the bud is perfect and the sour grape is ripening in the flower, he shall cut off the sprigs with pruning hooks and take away and cut down the branches.” (Isaiah 18:4-5)
Hemp today has thousands of uses. Modern technology has devised many new uses for the hemp plant&emdash;like biomass energy, building materials, fuel, plastic and so on. Hemp is ecological and its seed is among the best food crops on Earth. Selected varieties produce flowers that provide an herbal relaxant and a spiritual tool. Its herb is used globally as medicine.
ANYONE THAT A THROW BACK FROM THE DAYS OF PROTEST,LET’S CHANGE THE WORLD,PEACE BROTHER,KNOWS THIS SHOULD BEEN LEGAL DECADES LONG PAST.
Making criminals out society is not a passion our society should be pursuing.
Prisons,Jails, courts, probation depts., have got real problems with real criminals to deal with, this is a waste of valuable resources.
Grown Ups, Kids, are going to do what they want regardless societies laws.
It really is time for a change for the better that all could come to agree on,somehow for the better of everyone.
Note..haven’t seen any write ups on the great American protest in front BANK AMERICA YESTERDAY ON HIGHWAY 50.
“I’M SO THRILLED TO SEE PEOPLE GETTING OUT THERE STANDING UP FOR SOMETHING THEY BELIEVE IN.”
