State champions. That’s what the South Tahoe High School girls’ soccer team is for the second consecutive year.

With a 3-0 win over Elko on Saturday, the Vikings conquered the 3A Division. The girls reached the final round by beating Boulder City 2-0 Friday afternoon.

On the boys’ side, Truckee High lost 1-0 to Sparks in the championship game Saturday.

Both finals were played at Fernley High School.

It has been a good fall for South Tahoe athletic teams. The boys’ cross country team is state champs, while the girls are runner ups.

South Lake Tahoe is in California! They should be disqualified for future Nevada state games! What an outrage for nevada kids!! Boo on them!

Wendy: South Lake Tahoe is a tiny population area at Stateline, who is in the Nevada leagues, because it would be too dangerous in the snow to travel in the California leagues. Please do not denigrate these hard working girls, because of the decision to put their health and safety over their technical location. They do not have any “advantage” due to the location of the state line. They played hard, worked hard and won fair and square. Congrats to these hard working Tahoe girls!!!!!!

Congrats to the Girl Vikings and Warriors! It’s not about the State Lines it’s about kids and sports and healthy competition. Kudos to both Califoria and Nevada teams at the lake!!!

First, CONGRATS to the Lady Vikings! Excellent job. We all are proud of you, regardless of the state line.

But it goes beyond just school sports’ boundaries.

FCC considers Reno TV stations as our “local” stations, meaning DISH customers are forced to view Reno network TV. No California stations (except for some…not all…Oakland Fox KTVU programs broadcast by Reno Fox). No California news, election results, limited focus on Tahoe area. Very frustrating to only have Nevada news.

And a note…..we read about the Viking victory in the Reno Sunday newspaper. There is no local California Sunday newspaper.

But you have LTN as a 7-day-week news site that had the story Saturday, so why do you need more?
Use a Bay Area friend’s address and you can get the Bay Area stations and not Reno. Second homeowners do this all the time. The feed is based on your billing address.

Well aware of using someone’s address to get Bay Area or Sacto stations. Don’t have anyone to use in either place however. So a Tahoe address is our billing address.

And yes, we read LTN daily, several times daily actually.

Still not great to live in Calif and be forced to receive only Nevada TV stations.

    just my opinion…

Why “boo” on the California kids in the NV league Wendy? There is no way South Tahoe High could compete against California schools of the same size without driving hours and hours to every game and competition. This would cut into their education time and can you imagine what the costs would be? We faced that before local kids played in Pop Warner and we were part of the California Youth Football program. A drive to Davis, West Sac or Elk Grove was in store for us every Saturday morning.

Many schools in Nevada have such a surplus of student athletes that only the cream of the crop make the team. That puts our little mountain school at a disadvantage at every level, which makes their win all that more special.

I’m sure there are many border towns across the country that compete in the state that makes sense due to their location.

Our kids did a great job, congratulations!
