According to people who work at Montbleu, very careful trash collectors will be needed! Bassnectar fans left lots of drug paraphernalia! Interesting how on the one hand the City wants to crack down on marijuana dispensaries, and yet doesn’t seem to mind all sorts of ‘stuff’ being consumed at something it’s sponsoring?

I’m with the prisoner on this one.
Why isn’t the promoter PAYING for all those services? He’s planning on making a profit. This isn’t a charity event.

Why bother hiring extra help when you can “Snow” the locals into thinking they are doing a good deed for society?

  4. Careaboutthecommunity says - Posted: December 19, 2011

Some people won’t be able to afford a ticket, but can put some hours in, then enjoy the concert, at least that’s how I imagine it would work ;)

Strange how all you small government, market solves everything folks want to force a private business to do something.
I challenge you to name one music festival that does not happen with an army of volunteers.

“He’s planning on making a profit. This isn’t a charity event.”
    ?
Yes, so if people want to volunteer their time for free access, the promoter will make a profit. You just shot down your own criticism there.

Someone please explain to me what is going on in these comments….

You are all assuming that the promoter will make money. Nothing is guaranteed. If they do turn a profit, it isn’t excessive.
What is certain, is that numerous local businesses will profit from this event that will bring in thousands of people.
And all of these businesses, unlike the promoter, do not have any money on the line. The local businesses simply can not lose. I would go so far as to suggest that the increase in revenue experienced by all local businesses will exceed the profit made by the promoter.

I don’t see any justification for complaints about volunteers.
You are soooo against regulating businesses, until you aren’t.

Interesting that no one ever mentioned anything about volunteers used at The American Century Championship, the largest event on the South shore. I would expect that since you are just organized yourselves in opposition of private for profit businesses using volunteers, you will be ready to stomp your feet next July.

………when the notification to the neighboring homes goes out? Isn’t that required prior to a large event? I want to think there’s something about a response period or ? but not quite sure. Or maybe it will get boogared up in the Christmas holiday mail and we’ll all get it after the concert series. Easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

I have heard the Snow Globe sound checks all day my whole house was shaking. This techno crap is not even music. Did anyone consider there is a neighborhood just down the street a couple of hundred yards from the college. Whose brainchild was this stupid concert ???
Did they actually think there won’t be drugs or Booze?? We have NO SNOW on the ground and a lot of South Tahoe is a Tenderbox waiting to come alive. Another amazing marketing duhhhhh by someone ……

Mike, I feel your pain. My house is across the meadow from the college (perhaps 1/4 mile from the stage)and I was at home most of the day….trying to write. The low frequency vibrations from the over-the-top bass rattled my windows and shook pictures on the walls. Even the squirrels and birds stopped their activities. The high volume and low frequency caused an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I did some research on the health effects of low frequency sounds and found that you can actually feel the percussions in your sinus cavity and against your solar plexus, and pressure in your ears….and that’s the short list.

I regestered my concerns with the city and promptly heard back from Nancy Kerry at the City Managers office. She assured me that the actual “concerts” (more like a sound effects for mutant android soldiers) would not be as loud as the sound check was today. I hope that is true because sound at that volume and intensity is totally inappropiate for any healthy organism…not to mention a destination resort that is trying to focus it’s tourism efforts on outdoor activities, health and wellness, wildlife viewing, etc.

Just in case you were wondering almost all music festivals and alot of concerts get volunteers for trash pickup and shuttles etc in exchange those people usually get into some of the festivals music.Quincy does for high sierra and the people in town love it.I think this event will be great for tahoe why is everyone so negative these days.I mean it better than everyone partying at the casinos with no music and nothing to do.I think we should do more of this type of thing i mean we have a tourism based economy here.

  15. Careaboutthecommunity says - Posted: December 29, 2011

I heard it at my house today, thought it was just some car driving by with a booming bass at first.

I have a 3-day pass to Snowglobe, so it was exciting for me to hear the warm up, I guess it all depends on your perspective ;)

The music has a little bit of everything, some leans a bit towards pop music, some is a bit like jazz, some reggae, but much of it does have great bass; which I love!

  16. the conservation robot says - Posted: December 29, 2011

    LOL
These wipper snappers and their loud techno hippity hop music and alcohol and drugs need to be stopped.
Look on the bright side old timers, it is winter and no women will be wearing any skirts that are cut above the knee.

  18. the conservation robot says - Posted: December 29, 2011

    *gasp*
    Drinking!
(meanwhile, 3 miles away in Nevada, people are drinking 24 hours a day)

  19. geeper says - Posted: December 29, 2011

Nancy Kerry said the concert would not be as loud as the sound checks????? I think not! I did go the web site and sampled the music of the groups playing there, it was very amusing. Good luck close neighbors, another good reason to live in the county. Heck, even Tony O’Roarke lives in the county, he knows a good thing!

  20. LisaD. says - Posted: December 29, 2011

Who ever allowed this in the middle of the town is an idiot and I want them to come and sit at my house and listen to this crap. It’s not tha concert, the funny people walking by or even the music it self BUT HOW CAN YOU NOT THINK WE the locals who live around the area would not be affected.Does anyone know who to call tomorrow at the city and complain?? Please let me know because I’m gonna chew somebody’s A@# for this one. Remember MEATCUTTER’S there was a reason we did it out of town!!

  21. dryclean says - Posted: December 29, 2011

Suck it up folks. Three days of small discomfort for a lot of financial gain. Its a tourist town and things like traffic and noise by tourists is part of the game. Last time I looked our unemployment rate is much higher than the rest of the state and our local businesses are dying.

Please don’t be so Negative for this, I live close to the Harvey’s concerts in the summer ,”Love it very much”,They can turn it up as they MUCH they want here, fun in the summer listening to great acts, suck some good vino, couple doobs with a neighborhood neighbors, sit around the leather candles burning bright, kick back,(RELATE) put in the Book as part the Tahoe Lifestyle..

Hell, I love to be there, the electronic music scene really interesting for those old bodies young at heart, trace acid, hip bop, dance, very dreamy stuff(Timothy LEARY WINDOW PANE IN THE EYE), good for moving the body, breaking id barriers.
I’ve seen so many beautiful kids with friends in the stores shopping, and you can Only live Once ,Give them a break.

Try having A OPEN ‘mind”, IT’S PRETTY EASY TO BE PEACEFUL EVEN WITH ALIEN SOUNDS BLASTING THE HOOD!IT BE SOMETHING TO SEE FOR SURE.
