BEAVER CREEK — Calling it the most memorable of her 46 career Audi FIS Alpine World Cup wins, Lindsey Vonn of Vail fulfilled the dream she had a child and won at home in the inaugural women’s race on Beaver Creek’s Birds of Prey. Despite a less than perfect run, Vonn took a 0.37 victory over Swiss Fabienne Suter to the roar of packed finish stadium.

Vonn became the first American to win four World Cup races in a row and tied German superstar Katja Seizinger for the most career World Cup super G wins with 16. Vonn has now won 14 of the last 19 super G’s, never finishing lower than third.

Julia Mancuso was eighth; Leanne Smith 11th.

Vonn spent 45 minutes signing autographs for the legions of young fans after the race.

“This morning I woke up and I was really anxious and nervous. My stomach has been in a knot all day. When I got to the start I was totally freaking out. I wanted to win in front of my home fans so badly; mentally I was a wreck,” Vonn said.

Lake Tahoe News, thanks for posting results of the last few days. It is really a shame the limited to zero coverage the world cup receives here in Tahoe as well as Reno. How do the groups trying to bring the Olympics here expect to generate excitement without coverage of the World Cup? These are the same races and racers who participate in the Olympics. Lindsey Vonn has become the Tiger Woods of womens World Cup Ski Racing. She has won 4 races in a row, and 5 out of the 6 she has entered this year. She is the overall champion 3 out of the last 4 years and was 2nd last year. And she is currently leading this year and looking unbeatable! If Tahoe-Reno wants the Olympics, we better get excited now!

The Old World Cup Chair use to.But then again the city was a 5 diamonds Resort then.

Ingemar Stenmark – SWE.. USE TO LIGHT IT UP HERE!
Bodie and lots others at one time skied the downhill Vail resorts corporation Runs at Heavenly,Squaw Valley.
Stenmark was personal friends with J.Denver, they both could ski any park Heavenly with no difficulty!
They also use to turn the lights on World cup Run for locals ski evening up there at night. Was fun, those days my friend were when people skied downhill with no poles and “Ghetto Blaster Booming” the bye standers, were sharing Hot Rum,Brandy,Bud.
The police really weren’t burning rubber to pack the jail then.Maybe 6 Offiers for the whole town(never seen them) or they were hiding out with a girlfriend.

THE AMERICANS, NEVER WERE REALLY INTO THAT LIKE IN EUROPEANS WHERE, THEY ARE WORSHIPED LIKE FOOTBALL PLAYERS IN THE SPORT SCENE ACROSS THE POND.
HALFPIPE,THE OTHER NEW WINTER GAMES ARE COOL but THE DOWNHILL, SUPER G and Salmon,Flyers, were the supermen of Boards.
How things have changed, kinda like when people knew how play a mean axe and saxes without a computer fixing all their mistakes, it was real good stuff.

There’s far better places to hold the games than Lake Tahoe.
First you need a first class transportation system, which something this place just can’t get together.

I’ll agree with you, “Vonn Hot”!

The race is on tv right now. Universal Sports, on cable. We’ve gotten to see almost all the races. But it does cost extra.

Unfortunately Dogwoman, Universal Sports will be dropped from charter at the end of December. If you want to see Universal Sports/The World Cup races, you have to switch to Dish. I guess once again we have to bombard charter with requests to keep universal sports somewhere. And yes, I saw the race on charter 228 tonight, showing Vail’s, Birds of Prey run. Lindsey Vonn won again, she is just so strong!, this time a giant slalom.
