U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews will begin prescribed fire operations in the McKinney-Rubicon Bay area Jan. 18. Fuels management crews will complete 1 to 3 acres and operations may continue through Jan. 19.

Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from this prescribed fire project area and smoke may be visible on Highway 89. The Forest Service strives to minimize the impacts of smoke on local communities. Smoke-sensitive residents should consider staying indoors and keeping doors, windows and outside vents closed.

To directly receive prescribed fire updates, send an email to pa_ltbmu@fs.fed.us.

Forest Service staff will post road signs around areas affected by prescribed fire, and update the local fire information line at (530) 543.2600, No. 6.

Other federal, state and local fire management agencies may also be conducting prescribed fire work during this period.

Thanks USFS- just in time for the strong winds that are leading the storm front. Make sure you remember to post those signs:

“Control burn, do not call fire service to report.”

The Al Tahoe area was so smokey it was causing burning eyes, sneezing and coughing. I could actually taste the smoke. And like Lydia said-just as the winds are building up from the coming storm. Way to go, USFS! Another disaster in the making.

Yeah, I can’t believe that the forest service made us put up with smoke for two hours. It was horrible. I cannot be inconvenienced for two whole hours.

I don’t know where John lives, but the south end of town was socked in smoke almost all afternoon. Burning eyes, smoke in your lungs – these are more than inconvenieces, they’re health hazards.

they’re health hazards, no question about it,lets all sue the state and forest service, they got cash to give away, then maybe they will grind and spread.

lungs were burning ,had a lot tourist asking why would anyone do that, have you ever heard of a no burn day!

This does need to be reviewed by a higher court who’s got the clout to put out this practice.
