RAOK: Providing help because it was the right thing to do
Nancy Hussman’s tale about how she and her husband helped an injured man until authorities arrived is the winning selection for today’s Random Acts of Kindness award.
Winners are picked randomly each day. To be in the running, just write a comment below about a Random Act of Kindness you witnessed, or were part of by either being the recipient or the giver of the act.
Throughout January Lake Tahoe News is promoting Random Acts of Kindness. It doesn’t have to be something major. Kindness comes in many forms.
Area businesses are donating the rewards. Nancy will be receiving a gift certificate to Sprouts.

I love all the comments from people performing RAOK! My family and I have always made being kind to all a part of our makeup. I have some hints for those that would like a RAOK:
1. Wake up each day appreciating life.
2. Always think of others which may be harder than you think in this day of “I need to take care of me.”
3. Don’t be in such a hurry. The old “stop and smell the roses” fits here. Let someone go first at a 4 way stop. Let someone back up from their parking place at the store. You have a cart full of groceries and the guy behind you has 2 items, let them go ahead. Use your turn signal to let someone know what you’re planning so they can proceed too. Hold a door open for the person behind you. Pick up a piece of trash you would normally walk over or kick aside. Have a neighbor that could use some help around the yard or house? Life’s little actions go a long way.
4. Think first before acting. What are your actions going to do to others? Did that random person you are swearing at in your mind just lose a loved one or a job?
Thank you Kae for bringing RAOK to the forefront. So, Tahoe, it’s easier than you think…what is going to be your kind act today?
A young male working at Grass Roots ran out to my car yesterday because I had overpaid. He wanted to catch me before I drove off without my change. The young man’s honesty made me feel good all day.
I wish I knew names…right before the holidays I was chatting with my cashier at the Bijou Safeway. She told of how someone had yelled at her earlier in her shift and how the next person in life told the cashier how sorry she was. That next person in line went out to a local bakery and brought back the cashier some treats to make her day more special.
I love stories like that, and Jenny’s Grass Roots employee.
Boss bought us pizza today!
I vote for Patty’s boss!
