Tahoe bears won’t be part of Nevada hunt

By Jeff Delong, Reno Gazette-Journal

Black bears will not be hunted in the Lake Tahoe Basin and a swath of the Carson Range near Mount Rose during the coming summer, Nevada wildlife officials decided today.

After two days of hearing from those opposed to and in favor of the hunt, the Nevada Wildlife Commission selected hunt boundaries that exclude the Tahoe Basin and the Mount Rose area south of Thomas Creek.

“I just truly believe that it’s reasonable,” Commissioner David McNinch said of a proposal supporters said may diminish controversy over the hunt and at the same time possibly position the hunt to withstand scrutiny during the 2013 Legislature.

Yahooooo! A great day for bears who live in the basin. Thank you Nevada Wildlife Commission for making a good decision. Now there just needs to be stiffer fines for people who feed or otherwise make it easy for bears to get to human food.

Stupid, the commission should not bow down to a noisy group of people with no interest or education in wildlife biology. If the Basin is a bear hotel the sign would say “No Vacancy.”

Anyway, we will go on hunting in California, no big deal I guess, I just expected more out of Nevada.

What a bunch of baloney. One of the main reasons for starting the hunt last year was to reduce bear incidents in the basin. How is killing a bear in the Pinenuts going to stop bears getting into trash in the basin? These commissioners should be harvested.

The urban bears who have no fear of humans and are causing a tremendous amount of destruction by breaking into homes are in the Tahoe basin. The wild bears who have not learned to live off humans are not in the Tahoe basin. What is needed is for urban bears to once again develop a fear of humans, and that means hunting close to neighborhoods, not in the middle of nowhere.

The whole thought of bear hunting To begin with is nuts! What are we expecting to get out of this? Are they eating these or sport killing? to kill one of these majestic creatures Anywhere is nuts. Wildlife biology…$& someone says, what a joke…! Our behavior is the problem, not theirs… Leave these animals alone! U kidding me… If a bear harms someone I see reason to be upset, but we are not in grizzly bear country and they were here first. Whining woosses with weaponry. Oh that’s tough!!! I wish the bear shot back… That would make it fair… U have 7 kids driving SUVs ruining the planet but my god a bear weve conditioned is eating your trash. Better shoot it… I’d prefer bear hunter hunting season…. Make it fair.. Give these wonderful animals a chance.

Thank God! AT Last Sanity has prevailed. And it is part of God’s Creation, and to care about animals is a part of his creation as well! Yes, I eat animal products and I treasure my Cherokee Heritage as well as my Scots Irish heritage! I think it is sad that my fellow Christians/Jews/etc… do not see this, but that’s life. My families hunted as well and I have a dog I dearly love, and yes I have a gun myself! Thanks for reading.
