Dean Martin’s 1962 Lake Tahoe concert to be released on CD
By Erik Pederson, Hollywood Reporter
A four-disc Dean Martin box set will be released June 12, Universal Music Enterprises said Thursday. “Collected Cool” will feature several dozen tracks from his years recording for Capitol and Reprise. A highlight of the set is a 51-minute 1962 concert in Lake Tahoe that is making its CD debut.
The set will span Martin’s nearly half-century career, ranging from late-’40s hits including “Powder Your Face With Sunshine (Smile! Smile! Smile!)” to the 1985 single “L.A. Is My Home.” Collected Cool also features a DVD of Dean Martin Live in London, filmed in 1983 at the Apollo Victoria Theatre. The concert aired on Showtime but has never been available on home video.
Does anyone know where at Lake Tahoe Dean Martin played in 1962?
In answer to Brendan’s question it was probably the Cal/Neva Lodge in Crystal Bay that Frank Sinatra owned at that time. The only 2 on the South Shore at that time booking name acts were Harvey’s or maybe Harrahs, I do know later he played Caesars Tahoe in the early 1980’s….
I think Dean Martin played at the South Shore Room at Harrahs in ’62. A lot of big names were booked there at that time.I remember seeing Donald o’Conner, Shari Lewis, Red Skelton and many other stars there when I was a kid.
The 1960s and 70’s sure seemed like the heyday of entertainment at Tahoe.
