The Baumanns might be getting out of the restaurant business.

Kurt Baumann opened the Swiss Chalet restaurant in South Lake Tahoe in 1957. In 1959, he met his future bride who started working as a waitress.

The two were married for 44 years before Kurt died in 2004. Ruth died last year.

Since that time their sons, Peter and Ralph, have been running the restaurant. Besides the restaurant, they own the Swiss Chalet Village at the corner of Highway 50 and Sierra Boulevard.

Last month they put the whole center, including the restaurant, on the market for $2.8 million.

“We are not selling. We are just inquiring,” Peter Baumann told Lake Tahoe News. He would not elaborate other than to say they are taking inquiries about the center as a whole as well as just the restaurant.

Ralph Baumann essentially said the same thing: “We are only exploring our options.”

Listing agent Craig Robinson with Von Kaenel Real Estate in the South Bay would not speak without his clients’ permission.

    C.A.T.C:

Even 150 miles away, better that dealing with commercial real estate here – I and a colleague from Colorado inquired of a $ 1.6 million building for sale near Harrison Avenue – never even got a simple phone call back from the local “agent”. . .

This also happened recently with yet another “agent”, so I can relate to using someone other than ‘local’ to handle a transaction. . .

Hope my experience is alone here, but probably not. . .

One of the great resturants in Tahoe not controlled and supported by casino operations

Adel’s in Carson City was another one.

I am from the Bay Area, with a second home in SLT and have heard of Von Kaenel Real Estate. They are a very reputable and professional company (based in Los Gatos, CA) who have represented many people I know with the purchase or the sale of their properties, in both the Bay Area and South Lake Tahoe. Their number is 800.771.5064.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH Swiss Chalet for some very happy times,I sure enjoyed all the GREAT fOOD,Drinks SERVED to the party on a ski at the Cozy lounge.

I hated it when Paul at the The little Switzerland sold out, another Swiss place that had good food, ski shop next door,a real wood fire,Sunny Deck, piled on the lunches, breakfast, like Red Hut.That location was destroyed by some visitors center for rubber necking.
What a waste FOR THE TAHOE PARDISE History Books.
