Some of $350 million in grants Caltrans was awarded to improve public transit will be going to El Dorado and Placer counties.

An estimated 80 projects throughout California include upgrading transit service, purchasing eco-friendly buses, modernizing transit stations and creating jobs. The grants are funded through Proposition 1B, the 2006 voter-approved transportation bond, which is providing $3.6 billion over a 10-year period to improve public transit in California.

Some of the projects include:

• El Dorado County — $540,000 for El Dorado County Transit Authority to install electronic fare boxes.

• Placer County — $163,399 for Placer County Department of Public Works for the Placer County bus stop improvements and $1 million for Placer County Transportation Planning Agency to expand the Rocklin Multi-Modal Station Park-n-Ride lot.

I went to the blood drive at Embassy Suites today and parked in what I thought was Harrahs lot. There were so many Caltrans trucks there. Is Caltrans putting up the workers at Harrahs, a Nevada casino, at California taxpayers expense?

When they closed Echo for repairs, CJ Meyers put his guys up at the small motels on Emerald Bay Road. Cal Trans put their guys up at Embassy Suites at Stateline, and they were seen walking right into the casinos with their California paychecks.

They can decide where they want to spend their money. But, as a note, I’ve seen them staying at Embassy for a long time…they are tired, beat, enjoy a meal and rest inside..I’ve seen them walk into Heavenly Village too.

Doesn’t the city benefit from TOT and other tax dollars at Embassy? There are a lot of state cars in the Harrah’s parking lot often….they stay at Embassy all year long.
