Fourth of July parade in South Lake Tahoe
South Lake Tahoe is having a Fourth of July parade starting at 10am.
The parade will start at Stateline Avenue, go up Highway 50 and end at Rufus Allen Boulevard at the city’s rec center for a party.

While I’m in favor of a parade, it doesn’t seem like the word has gotten out on this. Is the city involved? What about the Lake Tahoe Visitor’s Authority? CalTrans? To pull this off, it should be a joint effort to make it great with plenty of notices to all businesses, service clubs and other groups? I would hate to see the streets closed down for a few floats.

We have posted this in the Lake Tahoe News, southtahoenow.com,the Business Monitor, the Mountain News, the Tahoe Tribune, talked about it on KRLT/KOWL, and it will be on K-Tahoe in revolving ads starting shortly. We mentioned it on tv at City Council and will again this coming week, for those who watch the meetings on tv or their computers. We have sent blasts to over 350 people through the South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce, which sends to El Dorado County Chamber, which blasts to over 625 people.The LTVA is included in those blasts.PR have been sent to all surrounding media and the City is supposed to post it on their website. We are also on Facebook.We have taken back the poster responsibility and those will start appearing this weekend.
That being said, it is always tough to get the word out on a new event, so please do spread the word! Thanks for your help!
Hope you get some kid’s groups to participate like Boyscouts, Girlscouts, etc. Any horse groups signed up?
I remember fondly participating in small town 4th of July parades.
I love small holiday parades, just wish it wasn’t $50 per entry so more could be involved.
I know its tough to get an event started, so I hope there is a lot of turnout.
The town never lost it’s spirit ,it just lost it’s business sense.

Tahoe Advocate – we did invite the scouts and horse groups, so hope they do come.
30 yr – wish we could do it all for free, but things have changed a lot since we were kids. Now, there are permits to be filed, some with fees, attorneys to be consulted re contracts, and insurance is unbelievable. I pay more for one event than I do for six months of home and car. Security, printing, signs have to be professional, advertising, sometimes fees to use the site, tables, chairs, etc. All those things we used to just bring or contribute now cost a bundle.
Still gonna keep trying to do some fun things for our town – every event I do has some free things for kids and I have yet to charge admission to actually watch or enjoy the event (Home & Garden Show, Western Days). Hope you can come and enjoy this one!

Thanks for putting the 4th of July parade together. I know it takes lots of work and some will complain about the traffic backup, but it’s worth it!How do I know this? Here’s a parade story for you…
In 1963 before the city of S.L.T was formed it was decided to have a parade heralding the oncoming winter. Harrahs and Harveys were the driving force behind this. We had a little snow but Heavenly Valley wasn’t open yet. My family was in the motel busines and wanted to be part of the “Winter Carnival”, (anything to fill some rooms!)
So we built a snowman out of chicken wire and covered it with paper mache, painted it white added a nose an eyes and cap and the put it in the back of our 1953 Willys Jeep pick up. The Echo Motel painted in black letters on the doors of the old Jeep.
The parade started at stateline and kind of woud about thru several neighborhoods before going back onto Hwy 50.
I rode in the back of the truck waving to everyone and throwing a few snowballs at some friends from Bijou elementary.
This took place at night and it was cold but lottsa fun, we even won a trophy! For a fake snowman and some obnxiuos kid throwing snowballs from the back of an old pick up??
I’ll try and catch the 4th of July parade even if I just see it at its conclusion at the Rec. Center.
