Every metro area in Northern California, including South Lake Tahoe, saw a double-digit drop in the average price of gas over the past month, according to the latest report from AAA Northern California, Nevada and Utah Insurance Exchange.

The average price in South Lake Tahoe dropped to $3.85 from $4.20 when the survey was done June 12.

California’s average for a gallon of regular, unleaded gasoline is $3.70, down 40 cents since last month. Among all 50 states, California has the third highest state average price for regular, unleaded gasoline. Hawaii is first and Alaska is the second.

Northern California gas prices are now averaging $3.71, down 41 cents from last month. The national average price of $3.38 is down by 16 cents, which is 25 cents less than the national price on this date last year, when it was $3.63.

The least expensive average price in Northern California can be found in Marysville where regular is $3.54 per gallon.

Thank you again to Raley’s for causing gas prices in the Y area to drop, simply by their appearance in the market and lower prices. The added competition has benefited local and out of town motorists alike.

I absolutely give credit to Raley’s for the town-wide drop in prices. They’ve brought back the competitive spirit!
    Evil corporation. . .

Too bad this doesn’t affect marinas. They’re still charging the same rates as last summer. The Keys was at 5.49/gallon the other day, and if they tell me one more time the prices are to offset the potential environmental effects, while trash floats under and around their fuel dock, I’m gonna lose it. It’s almost worth risking the fine by filling up from portable fuel cans while parked at a slip.

Conclusion: 1 Raley’s store did it.

*illogical statement* *does not compute* *initiate self destruct sequence*

When raleys opened up they were 10 cents lower than the other stations in town. Within a week the other stations dropped their price 10 cents to compete with raleys. Rumor is one guy owns all but 3 of the stations in town (one being raleys) so prior to raleys being opened, he set the price in town, usually about 30 cents higher than a “cheap” station in Sacramento. Raleys price has slowly crept up compared to sacramento’s cheap stations but the competition has been good.

Raleys opening a gas station in lake Tahoe did not cause a global decrease in demand for crude oil leading to lower fuel prices thing fish. What Steve is saying is that raleys opening a gas station at the Y lowered fuel prices in south lake Tahoe due to increased competition. You can abort your self destruct sequence.

Hopefully Safeway will open up a station next. They are usually 10 cents lower than raleys, at least in sacramento.
