Opinion: Apologizing to Live at Lakeview promoters
To the community,
I want to make a correction or retraction for comments I made during a slightly heated debate thread about the Lakeview Commons summer concert series.
I mistakenly made these comments because I was under the assumption that the city was financing this event and because of that I thought we should have more local bands. I was wrong.
As it turns out OnCourse Events finances these events themselves as well as with sponsors. In my opinion, that means they can hire anybody they want to play their events.
If the bands aren’t to my liking … well so what … clearly by the success of the event, they are to many peoples liking.
I realize now that many of the kinks that the series is having are getting worked out in the first year. This week an ordinance was passed by the city that there is to be no smoking of any kind in any South Lake Tahoe parks. And even though there was a little wafting through, it was nothing like it was.
Also, Rob made numerous announcements about rules and common sense etiquette throughout the night. Not much more can be done on that front.
I’d like to thank CarolAnne from OnCourse Events for taking the time to set me straight. I should have done my homework a little better.
Here’s to continued success on your venture.
Lisa Quick, South Lake Tahoe
Right on Lisa – very cool of you. Personally, I think the concert series has been great. As a resident of Al Tahoe (my wife and I bought our first place just a few blocks from what is now Lakeview Commons a couple of years ago), I must say we’re (overall) thrilled with how its come together and the events that have taken place there.
On numerous occasions (tonight included) we’ve walked down there with our almost 18-month old and enjoyed dinner (this time from the fantastic concession stand there) while enjoying the new park. Lakeview Commons truly is a park that locals and tourists can (and do) enjoy. Speaking of the concession stand, that really doesn’t do it justice. Curried chicken salad and gourmet grilled cheeses on sugar pine bakery bread are some of the fare you can get there. Pretty sweet.
The stand-up-paddle series and the concert series have been great to check out as well. And, while Lakeview Commons may not be all things to all people, overall, it’s been a huge success. And kudos to the city and all the agencies involved in its development and to local companies like On-Course and Lake Tahoe SUP that helped make it a huge attraction.
Now, if we can just get the construction around Regan Beach wrapped up…
Lisa, it’s quite refreshing to witness someone take responsibility when realizing they have made a mistake, and take the time to not only rethink your original thoughts, but then post your rethought-out view IN A PUBLIC FORUM! KUDOS! You are a much bigger person than many of us who post here (myself included).
And ACwithFT, WELL PUT top to bottom!
Yes, right on Lisa. It takes a big person to publicly apologize when they realize they had misunderstood the situation. I think the summer concert series is one of the best events to happen in Tahoe in quite a while. It is peaceful, relaxing, fun, and beautiful. It brings all kinds of people from our community together. And, best of all, it is FREE! I hope it continues for years to come. Kudos to all involved!
Yes, bravo Lisa. More people should follow your lead. I too am happy to see the Commons and all parties involved with the events doing well. Finally, something positive that we can rally behind. I do agree that there are more local bands deserving of exposure there.
