Run-walk in Truckee benefits humane society

Animal enthusiasts and their dogs of all shapes and sizes are encouraged to take part in the inaugural Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe’s Tennies & Tails event Sept. 1 at 9am at the Truckee River Regional Park.

Participants and their dogs will park (for free) and register at the Regional Park on Brockway Road in Truckee before going along the Legacy Trail to traverse a course set up along the riverfront trail.

This event is not just limited to dog owners and their furry friends. In fact, the only requirement is support for the Humane Society — animal lovers without their pets, kids, families with strollers, young and old alike are welcome.

Tennies & Tails will be comprised of two races. A three-mile run will commence at 9am and a one-mile walk will follow at 9:10am.

Participants are encouraged to gather sponsors for their run or walk to help increase the total amount of money raised.

For those who preregister, Tennies & Tails registration is $20 for each dog owner plus their leashed dog. Two leashed, well-behaved dogs under control are permitted per owner. All registered dogs must have current vaccinations.

Day-of registration fees increase to $30, and participants can register as early as 7:30am.

Children under 5 years old are free. To preregister or for more info, go online or call (530) 587.5948.

All proceeds from Tennies & Tails will go toward much-needed building funds for the HSTT animal shelter which is currently under construction.
